Close Encounters of the Echo Kind - Megzie

October something last year 2001 theSTART with Incubus:

This was my first time seeing theSTART live seeming i came for Incubus. I remember when Aimee came out a bunch of ignorant Texas fucks were hassling her for not wearing a bra but as soon as they started playing everyone was really getting into it. We were in the pit and there was so much energy coming off the stage i was dazzled. I had to move around a little to find my friend because she had the camera and i wanted to take pictures. I got some damn good ones too. After the whole show we both bought cd's and that meant we got to go to this special meet and greet thing, (the cd was only 10 bucks too). Inside the meet and greet room there were like bunches of free posters and stickers and i helped myself. By now i was really exitied about them. There was a line to meet the band and get signatures and pictures and stuff. When we got up there i looked at Aimee and she is so beautiful and i was so nervous so i pull up my purse (which is like this hot pink bag with britney spears on it and spears is crossed out and sucks is written over it and a kittie patch is safety-pinned above it.) And i said "umm... will you sign my purse?" and she looked at it, smiled and goes "hey scott look at this!" and scott was like "aww i like her." (referring to Britney). And besides the "Britney Sucks" Aimee wrote "but A Echo does not". And then the guys signed it and i told them how i really liked their music and then we had to leave cause my dad was waiting outside.

June 29, 2002 theSTART with Scarling and i dunno who else:

Well by now i had evolved into a huge fan. I now lived and breathed theSTART. So when the fucking bouncer said we were underage when on the site i remember reading 'all ages' i was pissed off and ready to kill. We kind of sat on the curb for a while with some chick who really wanted to see Scarling but left her id at home. And then the angels sang and i saw Jeff by the equipment van so i go over there and start saying something along the lines of "Hi. I can't get in and i REALLY love your band. See i made this t-shirt myself and ordered the EP and if you could get me in i would name my first born after you." And he smiled then Dan the tour manager came out and he goes "Talk to him." So then i went over to Dan and preached the same story and he was like "you MADE that shirt?." and my little eyes lit up as i said yes. Then he said "what's your name?" and i say "megan." and he says, "what's your last name?" and just as i begin to tell him he says it before me. And i kind of froze then i was like "yea how'd you know?" And duh since he mails out all the merch he *remembered* sending my EP and some free pins and stickers. I thought it was so cool that he remebered that. So then he ran around the club tryin to find a secret door or some way to get us in and like 20 minutes later he comes back emptyhanded. I was a bit bummed but he tried his hardest and i told him thanks. It's just cause that sucky-ass venue cares more about it's laws and shit then a few harmless fans that happen to be born when they were born. But then he went in and brought Aimee out and that made my day all the better. She came out and i like froze...again. She smelled really good and she told me she was sorry we couldn't get in and how laws suck and that she liked my shirt and wanted one...and i offered to make her one...and then i asked her if she remember me and my purse and she was like "oh YEA i remember that." i talked to her for a while and then she went back inside. Then Dan moved some stuff inside so that we could see in at least and i saw the merch table and bought some shirts. Then we told him we were going down the street to Insomnia (this coffee house type place) and he was like "cool i'll go too". So it was us and Dan the tour man in Insomnia just getting tea and hot cocoa. He is so nice he even paid for our stuff. Then he had to go. So late we get back and theSTART doesn't play til around 12 but in dallas there's this fucking curfew and if we would have stayed outside to watch, the "law" would have ticketed us. So we had to go home. We told Dan and he said sorry again but that he's putting us on the list when they come back in like a month or so we will get in for sure. That made me happie. One of the shirts i bought smelled really good like citrus, cigarettes, and someones house and i still haven't washed it yet.
